CSIR UGC-NET December Qualification Categories
The exam results qualify candidates for different categories. The results committee decides the number of qualified candidates for each category. The eligibility is determined in three main ways.
- Category-1 (JRF & Assistant Professor): These candidates are eligible for the Junior Research Fellowship award. They are also eligible for the Assistant Professor position.
- Category-2 (Assistant Professor & Ph.D. Admission): These candidates are eligible for the Assistant Professor post. They are also eligible for Ph.D. admission. They are not eligible for the JRF award.
- Category-3 (Ph.D. Admission Only): These candidates are eligible only for Ph.D. admission. They cannot get the JRF or Assistant Professor eligibility.
CSIR UGC-NET December Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the age and educational requirements. This is mandatory for the selection process.
Educational Requirements
- General/EWS: Candidates must have a Master’s Degree. They must secure at least 55% marks in the degree.
- Reserved Categories: OBC (NCL), SC, ST, PwD, and Third gender candidates are eligible. They must secure at least 50% marks in their Master’s degree.
- Appearing Candidates: Those who are in the final year/semester of their Master’s course can also apply. They will be admitted provisionally. They must complete their degree with the required marks within two years of the NET result date.
Age Limit
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): The upper age limit is 30 years.
- Relaxation: A relaxation of up to 5 years is given to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third gender, and women applicants.
- Candidates with research experience may also get up to 5 years of relaxation.
Assistant Professor & Ph.D. Admission: There is no upper age limit for applying for these categories.

Steps to Apply for CSIR-UGC NET December 2025
Candidates can apply for the Joint CSIR-UGC NET by following these easy steps:
- Visit the Official Website: Go to the NTA CSIR-UGC NET website: csirnet.nta.nic.in.
- Registration: Find and click on the “Apply Online” link. Register by giving your basic details. This includes your name, mobile number, and email ID.
- Fill Application Form: Use the generated application number and password to log in again. Fill out the detailed application form. Enter personal, educational, and exam city choice details.
- Upload Documents: Upload scanned images of your photo and signature. The photograph file size must be between 10 kb to 200 kb.
- Pay the Fee: Pay the required examination fee online. You can use Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card, or UPI.
- Download Confirmation Page: After successful payment, a Confirmation Page will be generated. Download and save this page. Keep a printout for your records.
CSIR UGC-NET December Exam Pattern 2025
The examination is a Computer Based Test (CBT). It will have Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The total duration of the test is
180 minutes (3 hours). There is no break between the parts of the paper.
The question paper has three parts:
Part A, Part B, and Part C.
- Part A: This section contains questions on General Aptitude. These questions test logical reasoning, graphical analysis, and quantitative reasoning.
- Part B: This part has subject-related conventional MCQs. These questions generally cover the topics given in the syllabus.
- Part C: This section contains higher-order questions. These questions test the application of scientific concepts. The questions are analytical in nature.
