The IBPS RRB Local Language Test 2025 is a crucial step for candidates applying for Office Assistants (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager) posts in Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) across India. Candidates must prove their proficiency in the local language of the state/UT they have applied for.

IBPS RRB Local Language Test 2025
The IBPS RRB Local Language Test (LLT) 2025 checks whether you can read, write, speak, and understand the language used in the area where your Regional Rural Bank (RRB) is located. It applies to two posts:
- Office Assistants (Multipurpose) – Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (as on 21 September 2025).
- Officer Scale-I (Assistant Manager) – Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (preference for Agriculture and allied fields, IT, Management, Law, Economics, Accountancy).
For both posts, local language proficiency is essential. Working knowledge of computers is desirable.
Why IBPS RRB Local Language Test Matters
RRBs serve local customers in villages and small towns. You will speak to customers, fill forms, and read documents in the local language. That’s why banks won’t confirm your appointment unless you show language proficiency through proof or by qualifying the test.
Who needs to take the IBPS RRB Local Language Test?
You do not need to take the LLT if you can show valid proof that you studied the required local language in Class VIII or above in a Government-recognized school/board, or you hold any certificate that clearly states you passed that level in the language.
You must take (and pass) the LLT if you cannot show such proof at document verification.
Time to acquire proficiency: If you don’t meet the language requirement at selection, the RRB may give you up to 6 months from the date of joining to acquire proficiency. This may be extended within rules, but not beyond the probation period. If you still can’t qualify, the appointment is cancelled.
What does “Proficiency” mean?
- Reading: You can read a short passage, forms, and notices.
- Writing: You can write a short paragraph, fill basic customer details, and write numerals in words.
- Speaking: You can hold simple customer conversations (greetings, account queries).
- Understanding: You can understand common requests and bank instructions.
(Each RRB designs its own LLT. It is generally qualifying in nature, and marks are not usually added to merit. Follow your RRB’s joining instructions.)
