WBMCC Publishes Urgent Notice, Suspends Admission!

The WBMCC notice has recently been published. Surprisingly, it was declared just 2 days before the release of 1st round seat allotment on 20th August. According to the official statement, counselling/admission is kept in abeyance till further order(s). This has affected all those who had already completed choice filling between 14th to 17th August.

The sudden pause shows how administrative and legal hurdles can mess up academic timelines. Both MBBS and BDS are highly competitive. For now, all students have to wait for clarity on when the WB NEET UG Counselling process will resume.

Why Was WB NEET UG Counselling 2025 Suspended?

The main reason for this suspension is the ongoing legal disputes over OBC reservations in West Bengal. Earlier, the Calcutta High Court had stayed the counselling process. Later, the High Court allowed the process to resume. But the court directed to publication of a revised merit list.

Despite this, the WB NEET UG Counselling 2025 was again halted due to some unresolved issues. This shows how sensitive issues like reservation policies can impact academic admissions.

How Many Students Are Affected?

Almost 11,178 students are affected by this. These students were shortlisted in the revised merit list for 85% state quota seats in MBBS and BDS courses.

For these students, the delay is more than just procedural. It’s mental torture. Students spend years preparing for NEET UG. So, such unexpected interruptions in WB NEET UG Counselling demotivate them, devalue their effort, and create fear of losing an entire academic year.

What Happens Next?

What would be your next step? It is uncertain as of now, but here’s what can be done instead of panicking:

1. Awaiting a Revised Schedule: A new timetable for WB NEET UG Counselling 2025 will only be released after legal disputes are resolved. Students must keep monitoring the official WBMCC website for updates.

2. Monitoring Legal Proceedings: There is a direct link between the suspension and the ongoing legal conflicts concerning the OBC reservation. The process will continue once the courts give clear guidance.

3. Student Advocacy: Student unions and groups of medical aspirants might push for quicker resolutions, ensuring that the academic year is not wasted.
