Eligibility Criteria for P.R. Thakur Govt. College Admission 2021

1. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2 ) or its equivalent examination are eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the 3-year B.A. (Hons.) or B.Sc. (Honours) The course of studies provided he/she has also passed in English has full marks not being less than 100.

2. a) The application criteria for the different subjects are as follow (Not applicable for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Communities):

English60% marks in English in the previous qualifying examination.
Physics60% marks in Mathematics in the previous qualifying examination. And 60% marks in Physics in the previous qualifying examination.
Computer ScienceA minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in Mathematics and Physics each in the previous qualifying examination. Or 55% marks in Mathematics and Physics each in the previous qualifying examination.

b) However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community taking up Honours Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate and 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying examination, as the case may be.

c) A candidate seeking Honours in a particular subject must have passed the same or related subject(s) (See the table below) in the previous qualifying examination.

d) Calculation of Aggregate Marks and Merit Point: For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the honors Course, aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks of the top four subjects (Best of four) in the order of marks secured by a candidate. A deduction of 2% marks from the four marks will be applicable for those candidates who have passed H.S. or equivalent in previous years.

Note: A student will be allowed to choose her/his Generic Elective subject from the above table after admission. The combination of Generic Elective Courses taken by a student is subject to changes considering the classroom accommodation.

3. A candidate taking up Honours in B.A./B.Sc. Degree Course shall study:

  • An Honours subject which shall consist of 14 core courses (ACOR) and any two other subjects as Generic Elective Courses (HGEC) which shall consist of 4 courses (two courses from each discipline).
  • A candidate also has to do 4 courses in Discipline Specific Elective (ADSE) in her/his chosen Honours subject area.
  • In addition to what has been mentioned above a candidate under the Honours, the stream has to complete two courses under Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course (AECC). One such course shall be in Environmental Science (ENVSAEC) and the other course will be a communicative course either in English (ENGSAEC) or any Modern Indian Language (MIL) (SAEC).
  • The candidate also has to study 2 Skill Enhancement courses (SEC) from any subject of her/his choice across the different disciplines offered by the institute where she/he is studying.
Admission Norms:

  • As per rules of the Government, the University, and UGC, 22% seats are reserved for S.C. candidates, 6% seats for S.T., and OBC-A, 10%, OBC-B 7%, and 3% seats for P.H. students for all the courses.
  • Again, as per the relevant Government Order issued by the Government of West Bengal, the S.C./S.T. candidates qualifying for admission against unreserved seats in non-Government colleges by virtue of merit/marks shall be admitted against unreserved seats and they shall not be counted against reserved seats.
  • If a sufficient number of S.C., S.T., O.B.C., and P.H. candidates are not available, their seats will be made open to the general students.
Candidates from other Boards:

  • Students, who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination or its equivalent from the All India Boards/Councils or State Boards/Councils including Open Schools and vocational studies, are eligible for study at the UG level.
  • Students who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination or its equivalent from the All India Boards/Councils (i.e. CBSE, ISC, and National Institute of Open Schooling) are not required to submit the Migration Certificate for getting Registration under this University.
  • Any dispute regarding eligibility criteria would be resolved by the Equivalence Committee set up by the University or by the Executive Council in its absence.
