Courses Offered

Admission of students shall begin as soon as the results of Higher Secondary or equivalent examinations are declared. Candidates are to apply in the prescribed form, which can be downloaded from the college website. Students can seek admission to the following courses –
1. B.A. (General) – Elective subjects offered: Bengali, Economics, Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Nepali, Political Science, and Sociology.
2. B.A. (Honours) – Subjects offered: Bengali, Geography, History, Nepali, and Sociology.
3. B.Com. (General)
4. B.Com. (Honours)
A student may be admitted to B.A./B.Com. three years Degree Course (Honours/General) after passing the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) or examinations conducted by Indian School Certificate (ISC) or Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or any other Board recognized as equivalent provided he/she passed in at least four subjects with English as Compulsory Subject, excluding Environmental Studies/Environmental Science/Environmental Education.
All students of Higher Secondary (Vocational) Course (10+2 levels) shall be treated as equivalent with the course curriculum and syllabus of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) w.e.f. session of 2021. Such students shall be admitted only in the 1st Year General Course of B.A./B.Com.
The eligibility criteria as furnished by the University of North Bengal for admission to first-year Regular Honours Courses are – (i) 55% marks in the aggregate or 50%marks in the aggregate with 60% marks in the subject offered for Honours shall be eligible.
The eligibility criteria as furnished by the University of North Bengal for admission to first year Regular Honours Courses for SC/ST candidates are –
(ii) 50% marks in the aggregate or 45%marks in the aggregate with 60% marks in the subject offered for Honours shall be eligible.
In the matter of eligibility to apply for admission to Honours courses 54.5%marks or above shall be treated as 55% marks, 49.5% or above shall be treated as 50% and 59.5% marks or above shall be treated as 60%.
Reservation follows as per Government rules.
Admission to Honours/General Course will be done as per the merit list prepared as per the direction of the University of North Bengal. For admission in any stream, the decision of the admission sub-committee is final.

Admission to PG courses in open and distance learning (ODL) mode through Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) Study Centre in Birpara College.

Admission Procedure

NSS – The college has two National Service Scheme (NSS) units, which are open to students of all streams.
• One hundred students per unit / per year can enroll as volunteers.
• Active NSS volunteers are given a certificate at the end of the second year.
• The NSS throws up an opportunity for students to gain skills in social participation and acquire leadership qualities and a democratic attitude.

Annual Festival – An annual cultural program is held every December where the students and staff get the opportunity to take part in various cultural competitions.

Film Club – The Film Club is formed for the student with an intention of cultural activity among the students by screening films on campus. To this effect, it has evolved a comprehensive policy of multi-lingual and multi-genre screening of mainstream and parallel cinema, as well as documentaries, on a regular basis.

Nature & Wildlife Club – The Environment/Nature & Wildlife Club has been formed to make students aware of the diverse flora and fauna of the ecologically fragile Dooars region.

Debating Club – The Debating Club provides students with a platform to hone their skills in making an argument in front of an audience. The exercise also makes them overcome their natural shyness and get used to public speaking.

Photography Club -The Photography Club aims to encourage students to take up photography as a hobby. In the digital age where even mobile phones have in-built cameras, photography can be a powerful tool to document the world around us. The panoramic landscapes of the Dooars and the people of different cultures who live here provide the members of the club with a ready subject.

Literary Club -The Literary Club aims to inspire among students a love for language and books and encourage them to write essays and short stories and put together the college magazine. Such activities teach the students to think analytically and creatively, expand their vocabulary, and improve their skills in public speaking.

Sports Club -The Sports Club organizes the Annual Sports Day as well as the different sporting events for each batch. The club aims to inculcate ideas of fair competition through the vehicle of sports.

Music Club -The Music Club has been set up to help students
• Develop an understanding of a musical notation system, building on the theoretical foundation
• Grow familiar with musical styles and genres from different cultures
• Learn to use their musical skills and knowledge to enrich their lives
• Learn the principles and practices of solo and assembled musical performance, organization, and promotion of life and recorded performance
• Retain and enhance their own individual love of music

Eligibility Criteria for Admission 2021

  • In case the reserved seats are not fulfilled, General Category candidates will be considered for those seats. Reservation of seats as Govt. Rules
  • *Five seats in M.Sc. (Microbiology) will be field up from the applicants securing at least 65% in B.Sc. (Hons.) the level at a concessional rate.
  • A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained
  • A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
    OR
    55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
    OR
    50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination provided all the other clauses are satisfied.
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community
    Students belonging to Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community taking up Honours Course of study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in the aggregate and 40% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination
